Pollard was not on salary from the state of Israel. He was a local intelligence asset. Such people sometimes provide a wealth of information, such as Pollard has. When they are compromised, their usefulness ends. There is no pension plan for such people and no lifetimes benefits. They are almost always cast adrift to fend for themselves. If they are lucky, they are not executed or killed in some other fashion. These are the things one needs to think about before betraying ones country for money. There is always a downside. |
