I was among the first foreigners to come to Beijing as part of a Canadian business contingent of about 300 in 1981, after our Prime Minister, Pierre Elliot Trudeau, recognised Mao`s government and sponsered an exhibition of Canadian goods and services in the "Hall of the People".
I visited China many times after that before US recognition of China.
During this time I had contact with Israeli business man/trader Shaol Eisenberg, who not only did considerable business in China, but also maintained a suite in the Beijing hotel, where we used to meet to taste Israeli oranges but also had a "minyan" once in a while.
Eisenberg did business with the Chinese for many years. He came to China as well as many other countries in the Orient, especially Korea, in his private plane.
His contacts were at a high government level.
