I know this about the Torah, it is silent about carrying on the sabbath. It tells you not to engage in your usual avocations, which means your work or profession. Somehow, that has been interpreted in many ways through the ages by people who haven`t got a clue as to present day realities which, I believe, need to be factored into religious observance.
Furthermore the Torah says absolutely nothing about an eruv. The eruv is just some concoction of people for whom carrying would be convenient.
Paterson, my un-elected governor, is another do-nothing, pandering, NY democrat politician. That having been said, it WAS a nice gesture to attend services. If should also be noted that the congregation is led by a very politically connected rabbi. Paterson did not just walk in off the street into the nearest synagogue that happened to be convenient. This synagogue is roughly 80 miles from where he lives in is in the chic, chic, trendy Hamptons. |
