By announcing his resignation now, Olmert is assured that corrupt AG Mazuz will not indict him. Mazuz will respond to his critics by saying that " Olmert is quitting anyway." Thus Israel may be stuck with Olmert for several more months. If Livni is elected as head of Kadima, there is little chance that she will be able to form a new Govt. In that case Olmert would remain in power until next year. If Mazuz indicted him, he would resign immediately and Israel would go to new elections within a few weeks. |
