| Family law, as other law, differs from place to place. Although in the US the woman might have been granted custody of her children, I believe the laws in most Muslim countries regard children as the possession of the father. There haved been a number of cases where American women married men from the Middle east and found themselves thrown out (possibly demoted to second wife status) with little recourse as a result of their inferior status in sharia law. It will be interesting to see how this works out, but I, for one, won`t be holding my breath. |
