Peace talks? There are no partners for peace on either side. (maybe there never were, but certainly not now: you need authority within your own camp to make a deal stick with your own "supporters".)
This is good news for ordinary Israelis and Palestinians. Both Hamas and the IDF go on killing sprees whenever there is a chance of peace; since they both know there is none, maybe fewer people on both sides will be killed in the next few months.
Of course the long-term prospects still look pretty grim for both sides: if you thought Olmert was bad, wait till you see Bibi in action again. |
