| Even Olmert understood that it was necessary to get rid of Abbas prior to Obama taking office as US president. That is why Olmert began negotiations with Hamas. The prisoner release agreement with Hezbollah in exchange for the bodies of the murder victims was intended to set the stage for the important exchange, which will be the release of enough Hamas terrorists to ensure that Abbas goes down. This will eliminate the threat that the Obama adminstration would put REAL pressure on israel to agree to a palestinian state headed by Abbas, which would be a disaster. With the Hamas terrorists in charge, even Obama would be unable to force israel to make a foolish peace treaty setting up a palestinian state, and with Bibi taking office next spring the threat of the palestinian state will be put off for another decade. |
