During Indira Ghandi`s time when India was closely aligned with the commie Soviets(even though India was democratic) India maintained a strong anti-Israel stand and didn`t even have diplomatic relations with the Jewish state. But these days the opposite prevails, much to the chagrin of Israel haters.
Trade between the two nations is about $2 billion annually. In 1997 President Ezer Weizman visited India and met with its president. Weizman negotiated the first of many weapons deals which put fear into Muslim Pakistan. Israel trains Indian soldiers and sells millions in munitions to India. Both nations cooperate in the areas of military intelligence, nanotechnology, alternative fuels, agriculture, animal husbandry, space research and tourism. Arik Sharon visited India in 2003. The world`s first Jewish-Hindu interfaith leadership summit was held in New Delhi on February 2007.
