The Iranians after the revolution needed to develop their domestic science and military infrastructure because of the lack of support from the west and the soviets. In the last 3 decades they have developed domestic production of their military and scientific capabilities, in addition, they have acquired the know how from covert sources. So everything they are doing today is domestically produced, which is part of the problem because you can`t bomb that know how away.
