Brown is a long-term admirer of the US and used to go on holiday there every year. I like the US, or at least I did under Clinton, but we have simply become far too close on foreign policy. We shouldn`t have gone into Iraq and since we have we should get out now. The US now has far more respect for countries like France and Germany who told them they were wrong. Similarly on Israel and Iran, we do nobody any favours by just parrotting Washington. Even if Iran ever got nukes, it wouldn`t attack an Israel at peace with its neighbours and the Pals. The emphasis now should be on pressuring Pals and Israelis to get serious about peace talks. By all means pressure Iran to restrict its nuclear activities, but do it in the context of proper Israel/Pal peace talks, not instead of, which is the situation at the moment. |
