| Note to Frank (#7) and to anyone else who thinks Kafka hardly knew Czech. Kafka spoke and wrote Czech competently. There are references in the diaries to speaking in Czech. In his work he used Czech when necessary in interviewing the workers about their insurance claims for industrial accidents. The book ?Franz Kafka, the Jewish Patient? by Sander Gilman contains translations of letters written, and received, in Czech by Kafka. |
