| Burston`s proposal misses the point. We don`t need a public peace plan. Any ordinary person with a 2-day seminar in Israeli-Palestinian affairs could come up with a viable solution within an hour of adjourning the seminar. The problem is not figuring out what a just peace looks like; the problem is implementing it. Both sides have proven to be astonishingly dysfunctional in moving toward a resolution of the conflict. There is simply too much hatred, mistrust and ingrained militarism. Neither side will take responsibility for its heinous crimes, and neither side will engage in sincere negotiations. Peace, unfortunately, needs to be imposed and enforced. The international community needs to hold both sides` feet to the fire. |
