| I liked the idea of guaging the readiness of each side through direct elections. It breaks down for me though with the demand for Palestine to be demilitarised. If Palestine is to be trully sovereign, then she has the right to acquire any weapons she desires, just like any other sovereign nation. Why should Israel have the monopoly on military might indefinitely? If they are to be equal partners, the current inbalance needs to be addressed. Both sides have committed atrocities and acts of terror, hence both sides need defence. Israel is likely to renege on her promises as the Palestinian population continues to boom. Should Palestine not have weapons to defend herself with, the Palestinians will find themselves under occupation, again. |
