| Some interesting ideas here. But a sticking point: what does Kneoppel mean by `Jerusalem?` If he means the old city, fine, Palestinians checking people at the Damascus gate, fine. But if he means the bloated monster that Israel has unilaterally declared to be `Jerusalem,` the plan is a recipe for disaster. Greater Jerusalem was deliberately shaped to castrate any Palestinian state economically and ideologically. To be secure in their own state, Israel must ensure that the Palestinian state is economically viable, and that Palestinians have some hope for a decent future in their landlocked, resource-poor area. Despair breeds extremism. |
