"We always say there is no country called Israel in the region. ... So, it is normal that we reject any negotiations between an Islamic state, like Syria or Turkey, and an illegitimate, non-existent state." - Iranian official
Israel was legally established 1947-48 by the UN. Its government is democratically elected through universal sufferage; religious freedom is guaranteed and practiced.
Iran is an Islamic theocracy, established in a violent 1979 revolution. It persecutes Bahai and other religious minorities. It illegally took hostage over 50 people at the US embassy and held them hostage for 444 days. More recently, it has threatened closing Hormuz to international trade, and to answer any Israeli or US actions by `setting fire to Tel Aviv` and its civilian inhabitants.
Now, who`s really illegitimate?
