| Assad ties Lebanon`s peace to Syria because it has direct control over the weapon`s that Hez receives. Without Syria Hez can`t survive. He wants the US involved because he needs protection from Iran when he betrays them. He knows his Arab cousins, although they won`t blame him, will not offer any help against the Shiite hashashim in Lebanon. Bush`s `surrender or die` attitude with Saddam is not in line with Assad`s hopes either. Israel`s incentive for peace with Syria is peace with Lebanon and Hamas, the other Syria/Iran entity. However, Israel should not give over control of Golan until a generation of peace passes. Why should Israel cede land to an enemy for a `cessation of hostilities`? Israel clearly has the upper hand and Assad knows that the situation in Iran will boil over soon. Once the Americans get the idea of cleaning up the ME, who will stop them at Syria`s border? Russia? China? |
