The author`s suggested remedy for the tensions with Iran, acquiescence to Iran`s quest for the bomb in the short term, and recognition of Iran`s dominant role in the Middle East for the long term, is a recipe for the biggest jump in radical Islamist power since 1979, when the mullahs took over Iran.
Given Iran`s past actions (two massive bombings in Argentina of Jewish organizations, support of terrorist groups, persecution of minorities in Iran, non-democratic rule at home), and stated goals for the future (elimination of Israel and unremitting hostility to the US), the only sane goals are:
1. Destruction or delay of Iran`s nuclear capabilities, using any means possible, for the short term
2. Regime change, through popular revolution, for the long term |
