Israel has been very clever in never "announcing" its status as a nuclear power, because that would have forced several Arab states, as a matter of saving face, to develop nuclear assets and do so as well. But if Iran develops and openly tests nuclear arms, it will force Sunni states to develop countervailing resources.
The fallacy of Iran`s nuclear strategy is the belief it will make Iran stronger, and nobody else will arm in response. While it may strengthen Iran`s position in Iraq temporarily, that`s all it will do. Nuclear arms are indeed a paper tiger. |
