Olmert seeks to keep Syria out of the coming Israel/Iran war. My guess is that Assad already has an agreement with the Iranians that he play along with Israel for the time being. While Israel is certainly making plans for this war, the Iranians, the Syrians, Hizbollah, and Hamas are making some plans of their own.
