The IDF doesn`t know how to make peace, only war. Things are getting better, but don`t expect the militarists to be happy. They are in a rush to hit back, hard!
After the first barrage of 4(?) Qassams in violation of the truce, reprtedly fired by IJ to retaliate for a West Bank (unnecessary) killing, Israel sealed off Gaza for a few days. Hamas learned the lesson and said it will IMPOSE the truce on the smaller group, something it refused to do earlier. Progress. More recently another rocket was fired and on Thursday another one. The IDF closes the borders for a day after each incident. This is now the rule of the game. Things are rather quiet and Sderot is much happier.
Note that there was also perhaps accidental fire from Israel into the Gaza strip. We have small infractions, but life is no perfect. The truce is holding and we can go on like this until Olmert and Bush are gone. It will then be time to think about the long term. |
