Certainly judging from the talkback....
This is a sensible editorial; one that JES will hate, of course, because it says the same thing that he pooh-poohed me for a week or so ago.
Hamas are a National Liberation Movement.
It is the biggest such organization in Gaza, by far, but it ain`t the only one.
It has rival claimants to the title of Top Dog, and so those rivals have a vested interest in causing this ceasefire to fail.
Taken together that means the Hamas do NOT have the same ability to impose their will as a govt of a sovereign state can and does.
That does not mean that sovereign states should refuse to enter agreements with NLMs, but it does mean that the state has to be aware that it is *not* dealing with an equal; it is dealing with an analog of itself.
Their expectations should reflect that fact.
Whinge away if you don`t like it, and go back to the tit-for-tat of the last few decades.
Fine.
Coz that was working a real treat, wasn`t it.. |
