| Israel has no intention of returning the Golan and Assad knows this. The negotiations are a ruse to reduce the Syrian threat long enough for Israel to attack Iran and avoid an immediate joint response from Iran, Syria, and their allies. Assad will play this game but, since he knows that "cooperation" with Israel will not return the Golan, his best hope rests with Iran and the coming war. |
