| Iron Dome is a boondoggle for IMI. Isn`t capable of stopping kassams by "intercepting" them. That is because radar computed tracking solution isn`t feasible until motor burns out and the rocket body has coasted to apogee, its highest point before arcing down to a "target" in Israel. From this point, physics dictates the kassam must land in Israel, either whole, or in pieces after being hit by an interceptor rocket or its shrapnel (neither likely to detonate its warhead). Hamas can`t aim kassams at specific targets, they`re intended to cause terror, which the pieces can achieve as well as whole rockets. They can even leave explosives out of the kassam entirely, and still terrify Sderot civilians; 50 lb. of flying metal chunks are still deadly. Sensible, permanent kassam answer is to occupy the tiny area (6 square miles, 5% of Gaza area) opposite Sderot-Ashkelon that serves as the launch zone. Gaza can`t increase kassam range or manufacture Katyushas due to propellant chemistry issues. |
