| OK there has been a small Jewish community in Israel throughout the Middle Ages and down to the modern daym but apart from that, there are worrying similarities between Israel and the states established by the Crusaders in the Holy Land. Both are essentially western phenomena established and maintained by military force within a hostile Middle Eastern environment. Both rely for their continued existence on immigration and support from outside and commercial contacts with the West. Both discourage intermarriage with the locals. Unless modern Israel puts down proper roots in the Middle East and wins acceptance from its neighbours somehow, it`s unliley to survive forever. Just as with the Crusader st |
