What Jewish Mother is not proud of her Son? I am, but a few elements of clarity are needed regarding Marco`s blog post today:
1."St. Augustine`s by the Sea" was, by all objective standards, the best elementary school academically on the west side of Los Angeles, except for UCLA elementary, which he didn`t get into.
2. The Reconstructionist Rabbi was giving sermons on the cliffs of Malibu (not a bad venue) and agreed to a Bar Mitzvah in our home in the way these celebrations were once conducted before synagogues became bar and bot mitzvah factories. This was after Wilshire Blvd. Synagogue (where his Nana was a founder)refused, because he didn`t go to Hebrew School there and Marco and his Dad said no to signing up for `confirmation`.
Just some `Mother knows best` clarity: With all due respect to consistency (which I admit he didn`t get a lot of), love and non-conventional experience are sometimes the best ingredients a parent can give a child. If that`s the case-I plead guilty. |
