| When Israel invaded Lebanon in 1982, they did so with the objective of pushing the PLO forces to the north and away from the border of Israel. This was quickly accomplished, and, in fact, shortly after this, the PLO departed for Tunesia. This would have been an excellent time for the IDF to go home. Instead, they fortified in South Lebanon and hunkered down for a long occupation. This led to the creation of Hizbollah, who over the next 18 years, relentlessly attacked and harrassed the IDF until they withdrew back to Israel in 2000. If Hizbollah had not been on hand to oppose Israel, there would be Israeli settlements throughout South Lebanon today. It is Israels custom to annex and "settle" any land they occupy as a result of military action. Nasrallah is the saviour of lebanon and his critics are insignificant in comparison. He defeated the IDF in each of the two wars in Lebanon. |
