The Citizenship and Entry into Israel Law "2. During the period in which this law shall remain in force, despite what is said in any legal provision, including article 7 of the Citizenship Law, the Minister of the Interior shall not grant the inhabitant of an area citizenship on the basis of the Citizenship law, and shall not give him a license to reside in Israel on the basis of the Entry into Israel Law, and the Area (military) Commander (of Judea, Samaria, or Gaza) shall not grant a said inhabitant, a permit to stay in Israel, on the basis with the security legislation in the area." http://www.knesset.gov.il/laws/special/eng/citizenship_law.htm
I bring the essence of the law for the readers` benefit. It was clear from the start that the reason for this law was not security. About a couple of years ago the Jerusalem Post listed all cases of former WB-Gaza residents married to Israelis being involved in security crimes. (There were about 40 such cases.) In practically all of them, it was not the parent who committed the offense but their teenage sons, usually used as lookouts or guides for the real terrorists. These teenagers have Palestinian grandparents living in the Territories, and a family visit enables the terror organizations to do the recruiting.
Obviously, there is no need for such a law, which only brings bad repute to Israel. How about not allowing teenage Arab Israelis to visit the Territories? Will solve the problem. |
