Gross hits the nail on the head. Levey is among an ocean of liberal, barely-religious diaspora Jews for whom Israel remains attractive as a concept.
Israel`s abject failure is in not taking advantage of this enormous, unparalleled human capital.
Imagine it. Hundreds of thousands of well-educated graduates glad to make a gesture towards Israel, even join the economy, at least for some years, given the proper interface.
But instead, nothing. No attempt to have Israeli universities compete with Harvard and Oxford for Jewish students ready to travel for school. No attempt to create Israeli credentialling for professionals in major centres like New York or Los Angeles or Paris.
No government drive to match local businesses with foreign job seekers. On the cultural front, no attempt to sell Israeli music abroad, to produce diaspora fans of Israeli sport. No international consultancies based in Israel.
In short, nothing. There are hundreds of thousands of Leveys. All wasted. |
