| There is nothing more natural than a country trying to recover kidnapped soldiers but here it seems to me that the issue was being used for political aims. Goldwasser and Regev, they were most probably killed either instantly during the attack or very soon afterwards. Israel has every right to pursue the case but it has no right to create an understanding in the international media that suggested that they were kidnapped alive. When this was put as a pretext to initiate the Lebanon War during which IDF killed more than 1000 Lebanese civilians and used cluster bombs most of which were probably american made, IDF top brass knew that the two soldiers were dead. Was not there hope ? Well there is always hope but a negligable hope. The families of the soldiers were seemingly ill-informed about the mechanics of the events and this is very sad. And Israel should never negotiate with terrorists. |
