And as if we needed proof of this fact, after two thousand years in Germany the most successful, secure and assimilated Jewish community of the time stood by disbelieving as their friends, neighbors and relatives perpetrated the nearly successful final solution to Christendom*s Jewish Problem.
Germany nearly won that war and had they done so we should have no doubt that Jewry and Judaism would have been erased from existence worldwide, that Palestine too would have been judenrein.
Our Diaspora is indeed experiencing relative calm, and our youth are responding as generations of Jews previously to relative tranquility with assimilation and intermarriage. This is natural and human. But as guardian and refuge of the Diaspora Israel cannot allow herself to be lulled by the appearance of calm, misunderstand our temporary present tranquility as a material change in the dialogue between Christianity in all its forms, |
