Anshel Pfeffer, Haaretz Correspondent: Olmert: Israel can't keep taking handouts from Diaspora Jews
Talkback

we know that programs such as Birthright, which is a great success, are financed by diaspora Jews. Then, how about if some of the many many many very affluent Jews in Israel also donate and finance educational programs? Yes, the pay taxes, but so do all the diaspora donors. How about matching funds? For a diaspora Jew or organization to finance a project, there should be equal support coming from Israeli Jews (not government)?
And, how about doing some cleanup in the house? it is not only Olmert who received envelops, the "Agency` has numerous employees who are ethically (if not legally) questionable, including leaders of the agency`s union. The solution: close down the agency and let not-for-profit independent organizations carry-on with the tasks (see the example of Nefesh b`nefesh).
