| Ari is right about French complicity with the Nazis, and the unwillingness of the French to own up to their culpability. By all means, let the French teach about the Holocaust, whether they have children adopt the identity of a Jewish child or not, but they should not understate their own part in it. The Vichy government offered no resistance when called upon by the Nazis to round up French Jews. They cooperated willingly, fully, and even with gusto. (Then there is the story of the massive looting of Jewish assets by the French themselves, which has never been openly acknowledged and redressed.) |
