Okay, I can understand wanting to attempt to bolster the Lebanese army relative to Hezbollah, but ... Hezbollah already has the upper hand (as proven in West Beirut and in the Lebanese government backing down on Hezbollah having to give up its weapons and private communications network.) Throw in the fact that Syria invades Lebanon when it chooses, and that Lebanon, Syria and Hezbollah are all at war with Israel, and you can understand Israel`s reticence about having US weapons systems used against it by those parties.
