As Dror reminds us, the Lebanese Army is mostly Shia, and it`s sympathetic to Hizbullah. (Recall that the attack on the Hanit during the 2006 conflict utilized Lebanese radar installations.) And against who would Lebanon need anti-tank missiles? These will quickly move into Hizbullah`s arsenal, to be used against Israel in the next round.
The US is trying to put its best face on its losses in Lebanon. Rice now "supports" a government in which Hizbullah has veto power, and Defense is ready to provide arms, so as to retain some modicum of influence there. It`s a foolish strategy. |
