2 different societies.
One has a military governed and accountable to the citizens. The army never targets civilians intentionally, putting its fighters in peril in order to spare civilians. The military and society at large are at pain when civilians are killed. The military is subject to state laws, international laws and standards, humanistic norms and morality, and the justice system. The courts will often overrule decisions by the military and prevent it from doing what it deems necessary.
The other has a military independent of a state, governed by unelected religious zealots whose goal is the elimination of a neighboring state. This military targets civilians purposely and attempts to maximize damage caused to civilians. This society revels in death of civilians and celebrates `heroes` who murder children. This military is accountable to no one and does not uphold any law standard or norm.
Is anyone surprised that one society will celebrate the return of a child killer? |
