| As one who is generally impressed with Ari Shavit, I find myself in preplexed disagreement. Lose nothing by this truce? The smuggling will stop? Hamas will not grow stronger, militarily? Hamas not recognised by us?? Who is Shavit, or Olmert trying to fool - Egypt may have been the broker, but we made the deal with Hamas - and every Arab in Gaza knows that, and is now convinced that the violent terrorism of Hamas works, in contrast to the politics of talking of Abu Mazen, which obviously has not. Yes, the 2d Lebanon war WAS a terrible failure -but because it was fought mis-guidedly, not because we didn`t need re-establish Israeli sovereignty, and to emasculate Hizbollah. Shavit all but says that had we not gone to war in 2006, Hizbollah would NOT have increased their rocket strength??? Shavit`s article reads as if leaked straight from Barak - the lone, `uprighteous statesman`, with no private agendas of his own - here, Shavit descends to the sublime. |
