I did not see the Hubris which the "easy" (though not as easy as the myth has made it) victory of the Six Day War created. Nor did I really see the Attrition War for the chilling prospect it was.

It took the Yom Kippur War to turn that hubris into a fear-driven reaction which led Israel down the dark passage of right-wing extremism.

Now an emergence is possible from that reactionary land grabbing and war-loving which has distorted Israeli society for decades.

As the Soviet Union paid far too high a price for it`s pathological need to dominate it`s neighbors and force them to be it`s safety buffer, Israel has paid far too high a price for the dream that in an age of 20th century weapons, land could equal security.
