While I find the prospect of Israel having a peaceful northern border I still believe that these talks are no more than political stunts on the part of both Olmert and Assad.
Both want talks to boost their international and domestic standings, but I doubt either of them are interested in a final peace accord.
I simply do not see Israel giving away the Golan when Syria is attached to Iran, and Syria living at peace with Israel and losing such a valuable scapegoat.
Then there is Hez. If a peace deal will go though will they listen to Syria or Iran?
Hopefully I am wrong but I somehow doubt it. |
