I`m a tad surprised -- and disappointed. It does sound like Austria is still covertly condoning the Nazi crimes of the past. Croatia should be perfectly capable of providing a fair trial, so this becomes all the less understandable.
On the other hand, the Simon Weisenthal Center may be reaping the fruit of having cried wolf so often before. Remember that ridiculous persecution of the Irish museum a year or two back? If they`d shown a bit of restraint, their accusations would carry more creditability now.
As a final reflection, Croatia itself didn`t exactly have lily-white hands in WW2. If the Austrians didn`t give this guy up, maybe it`s because the Croats didn`t push all that hard. |
