| Fulbright`s are very prestigious, and the awarding of them to students in Gaza signals that the USA does care about such things as equality of opportunity. Then Israel said: No, rot in Gaza for all we care. At that point the State Dept should have stood up for "Truth, Justice and the American Way" but instead folded like a pack o` cards and quietly withdrew the Fulbrights. Shameful, and Condi and her gang were suitably contrite when this came to light. And that is now the point i.e. US prestige and reputation have *now* been put on the line, and so this is *now* A Very Big Deal for Condi. Keep that in mind, ron. Because Condi demands, and the Israelis still say no, even tho it is American prestige - not Israeli prestige - that is now on the line. This is just the sort of arrogance that the Americans remember, ron, so Israel is being very stupid indeed in refusing to back down when doing so would harm her not at all. |
