| Why wait for others to distribute unsolicited booklets OUTSIDE the school when this material should have been dealt with by the Ministry of Education and included in both the Arab and Jewish curriculum long ago? The Ministry of Education would have been far wiser to officially publish a version of the narrative of which they had control, and which would foster reconciliation and a future narrative that is conducive to the Arab schoolchildren growing up to be contributing cirizens of Israel. Instead, the Ministry has taken no initiative and thus let this sensitive issue slip through their fingers to be dealt with by others whose objectives are far less favorable. Instead what they have done is send a clear cut message that they are not interested in promoting any other narrative than the whitewashed one we are living with. It is time they came to terms with the fact that our schools should be teaching the truth rather than sweeping it under the rug. |
