The Left never shies away from pursuing completely anti-democratic means, "justified" by the need to stay in power to protect "the Rule of Law" from the Right.
When Ehud Barak refused to debate Netanyahu in their first contest, the Left generally, and especially the press, lauded this as wise. When Barak resigned under the "incapacitated Prime Minister" clause, so as to precipitate a PM-only election against Sharon (rather than possibly face Bibi in general elections), again, the Left and its press celebrated the "maneuver" as just and necessary.
When Sharon went against the Likud referendum and pursued unilateral disengagement, the Left celebrated. When Sharon committed the "big bang" and tore Likud in half, the Left celebrated.
When Ehud Olmert lead the born-in-sin Kadima faction (as former Likudniks they had violated the party platform-contract with their voters), the Left and its press celebrated: "Better a slightly corrupt man than an ideologue (Bibi)".
