| Shaaba Farms is a tiny area, so why not call the bluff: Offer them to Lebanon in exchange for mutual recognition of the borders and a cessation of hostilities. If Hezbollah agrees, with some luck there`s quiet on the Northern Front and the possibility of repairing relations with Lebanon. If they agree and later default on the peace part, retaking Shaaba Farms against Hezbollah shouldn`t be all that difficult, and Hezbollah would have the stigma of having broken a treaty. If they simply decline, then at least the pretense that the war is for the sake of those farms is blown, and Hezbollah embarrassed. Either way, I don`t see Israel risking a lot with such a move (Unlike giving Syria the Golan). |
