I don`t want to question the validity of Holocaust remembrance per se: but it`s pretty hard not to notice that for a lot of the posters here, it`s serving some extraneous purpose.
Indeed, I don`t think it would be too much to say that if we woke up tomorrow and the Holocaust really hadn`t happened -- if the population of World Jewry was 50% more than it is and if there were still large Jewish communities all over Central and Eastern Europe -- that these posters would be lost. They NEED their Holocaust. They have formed their identity around it.
Is there nothing to Judaism without the Holocaust? Because that, to some extent, is what these people are saying. |
