I do not know where Mr. Dollinger gets his 90% intermarriage statistics. San Francisco has a strong and vibrant jewish community. The new JCC is the central focus of the community and is a cultural center for both jews and non-jews. The temples are thriving and as an example, my temple, Temple Emanuel has over 2,000 families as members and 5 rabbis serving the membership. It is possible, that the young jewish people who move in and interact with the other new arrivals do intermarry. However, there may have been problems with their jewish identity before they came here. I question if the children of the long-time residents intermarry at that rate. In any case, to all the critics I could only say that we proud San Francisco jews would would welcome visitors coming to our city and seeing for themselves this vibrant jewish community.
