I don`t see any problem at all with this suggestion. The end goal is for Israel to join as a full member of the EU, and this would solve the intractable problem of the right of return.
Once Israel was in, and it would of course include the West Bank, then any citizen of any member state has the right of abode and work in any other member state. This would mean Palestinians could move from a squalid encampment in Jenin to live and work in Tel Aviv. Perfect.
In the long run, the union between the EU and the Mediterranean countries would permit something similar. Those refugees living in squalor in Lebanon would also be able to make the journey to London, Paris, Berlin, and of course Jerusalem, to live and work. Perfect. We have the best of all possible worlds. |
