Friedman is WRONG. Iran is not like Iraq. The country is large, mountainous with scattered deserts, inclement and rough. Our military advantages would not help in an asynchrouns war. Soldiers are fiercely nationalistic. They take no prisoners. Repercussions would be fast and worldwide. It would be impossible to insure the supertankers carrying oil; oil prices will shoot up to sky, not to mention attacks on the tankers, ports and the oil fields of the region. The Strait of Hormuz has only 16-17 miles of navigable waterway for supertankers. Know it or not, every country in the immediate area would be forced to participate, one way or another. No country can stay neutral. Fighting would be asymmetric, sporadic, asynchronous and savage by all standards. All sacred religious sites of the children of Abraham (Jews, Muslims and Christians) are within the target range of all participants. Think about that Frienman, before writing to advocate another war. |
