Talkback
Title:No to national elections now

Is will be irresponsible to hold national elections now, when all that is needed is to remove Olmert. Kadima should hold internal elections for Prime Minister, which can be done in a month, instead of national elections that will be done in 4 months at least (and will also include internal Kadima elections).

At this time, in Bush`s last months in office, Israel should concentrate on advancing whatever peace deal it can. I personally don`t think this will be accomplished, but I recognize that I may be wrong. Therefore, an effort should be made, and let us not have Bush, Rice, and the Palestinians accuse Israeli elections for any failure to achieve peace.

The one real reason to consider national elections is that Shas wants to get out of the coalition. However, the new PM (Livni) can invite Meretz to join, giving her coalition 60 members. The Arab parties (10 MKs) can support it from outside. This will enable the new government to last to the end of this year, and probably longer.

A recent poll suggests that if there are new elections now, Netanyahu will be the next PM. This will be the end of the peace process once again. My preference: Kadima and Labor should try to get a peace deal. If they get it, put it to a referendum; if they don`t get peace, we should go to new elections.
