The siege started on the final day of the Disengagement. It intensified with the coup counter-coup that solidified Hamas in power.
If/when there is a cease-fire that ends the siege, I will be surprised. But as shown in the story of the kids who cannot get out of Gaza to go to school, Israel is still holding its place as official occupier of Gaza or they would not need Israeli exit visas.
The only thing that wil lift the siege is an Israeli government renouncement of its official status and its powers as occupier of Gaza. Only then can Rafah be used as window to the outside. |
