| Israel needs to nurture "low level" hostilities with Gaza in order to preserve the continuing Israeli expansion of west bank settlements and other expansion in east Jerusalem. The occassional rocket fire upon Sderot or Ashkelon, and the occassional Negev farmer shot are a tiny price to pay for this golden opportunity of expansion. Even today, as Israel bargains with the Palestinians to allot them with the majority of the west bank, they are expanding their settlements there, hoping that this will give them an even larger amount of the land before peace comes. There was never any hope for a Gaza truce, as I posted when the idea was first mentioned. Until such a time as Israel is forced to stop expansion, there will be no peace and no cease fire. |
